Peel apples and cut in pieces. Zest orange, cut in pieces. Put chopped apples and oranges, and orange zest in a saucepan. Add a little water and sugar and boil, stirring frequently, until ready. Check readiness by pouring a little jam or marmalade onto the cooled dish – if it is ready, it does not flow out.
Pour into warm, sterilised jars. Store in a cool place.
